Editing Guidelines

  1. To reflect contemporary language usage, this dictionary is based on corpus editing. The definitions, example sentences, collocations, and part-of-speech analyses are all derived from the corpus established by the National Academy for Educational Research.

  2. This dictionary primarily serves students from third grade of elementary school to high school in Taiwan. It aims to assist their academic learning and provide linguistic knowledge necessary for daily life applications.

  3. This dictionary mainly includes general vocabulary needed for daily and campus life applications, as well as for Chinese language curriculum learning for students from elementary to high school. Proper nouns (such as personal names, country names, place names, organization names, etc.) and specialized terms not commonly used in daily life are not included. The main sources of words include the National Academy for Educational Research's word survey reports, Chinese language curriculum textbooks, and extracurricular reading materials for primary and secondary school students.

  4. The main words in this dictionary principally use the standard characters promulgated by the Ministry of Education. However, a small number of variant characters are also included, taking into account contemporary usage.

  5. For words that differ only in character usage and for synonymous terms referring to the same object, this dictionary includes only the primary form as the main word. Other forms and alternative names are listed under that word and are not included as separate entries.

  6. To provide rich linguistic learning information, each entry in this dictionary contains multiple fields of explanation, as listed below:
  1. Items common to single-character words and compound words: word, frequency rating (0-5 stars), pronunciation, part of speech, definition (including usage notes), examples (example phrases, sentences, and textual evidence), variant forms or alternative names, explanations of form and pronunciation distinctions, illustrations, and semantic field relation diagrams.
  2. Items specific to single-character words: character form explanation.
  3. Items specific to compound words: synonyms and antonyms, collocations, and etymology.
  1. The pronunciation of entries  in this dictionary principally follows the Ministry of Education's " Concised Mandarin Chinese Dictionary ". For characters with multiple pronunciations, the " Review Table of Multiple Pronunciations for Single Chinese Characters" officially announced by the Ministry of Education is used as the standard.
